James Banks Jr. is a dedicated educator, coach, mentor, and family man whose life is centered on helping young people recognize their potential and become the best versions of themselves.
James earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Sport Fitness in 2014, an MBA in Leadership in 2024, and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education in 2026, graduating with High Distinction. His educational journey reflects his commitment to lifelong learning, leadership, and serving students with diverse needs.
As an educator, James believes that teaching extends far beyond academics. He strives to create meaningful relationships with students, provide a safe place for them to be heard, and teach lessons about confidence, accountability, resilience, decision-making, and personal growth.
His influence also extends into athletics. At Kankakee High School, James has coached freshman and junior varsity football, working primarily with offensive and defensive linemen and serving as a defensive coordinator. He has also spent years coaching boys' and girls' wrestling, using athletics to teach discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and character.
James is also the creator of the Planting Seeds book series, which uses powerful stories to address mentorship, mental health, trauma, confidence, relationships, resilience, father figures, and the importance of adults consistently showing up for young people.
Above every professional accomplishment, James values being a family man. His approach to teaching, coaching, writing, and mentoring is rooted in the same principles he brings to his family: love, consistency, protection, encouragement, accountability, and presence.
His philosophy is simple: Plant the seed. Build the relationship. Believe in the child. Help them grow.
